We offer many different types of Costa Rica activities and experiences to our guests that allow each one of you to have fun and to enjoy Santa Teresa in its fullest.

Surfing Costa Rica

Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are home to some of the best and least crowded surf in Costa Rica. The area offers many different types of surf breaks that are fun for all levels of surfers. The experienced surfer will be stoked to find themselves in one of the most renowned surf locations in the world while this area is also known for its fun, peaky, sand bottom beach breaks that make our beach a fantastic and safe place to learn to how to surf. For those of you with children, Playa Santa Teresa and Playa Hermosa (our neighboring beach) are also perfect beaches for teaching and introducing surfing to young children.

Yoga

Yoga is very popular in this area and as a matter of fact, Santa Teresa has become one of Costa Rica’s premium Yoga Mecca’s. There are several Yoga Studios here that offer daily Yoga classes as well as Meditation clinics and Pilates. Based on the style of Yoga you prefer, we can help you find a Yoga studio in town that you’ll enjoy.

ATV/Quads

ATV/Quads are undoubtedly the most fun mode of transportation available in Santa Teresa/Mal Pais. ATV’s are a great way to take your vacation to a whole new level with some off-the-beaten-track exploring. They allow you to easily cruise around the town’s many back roads, discover the area’s gorgeous hidden beaches and get to all of the great restaurants that are tucked away in the hills surrounding Santa Teresa/Mal Pais.

Massage, Spa Services and Acupuncture

If your muscles are sore from surfing all day or if you simply want to give your body a break, we are more than happy to arrange a wide variety of luscious spa services in the privacy of your bungalow. Acupuncture sessions can also be arranged for those more serious ailments.

Horseback Riding Tours

A wonderful way to take in this wonderful countryside is on horseback. This tour is probably the most natural way to experience the jungle and beaches of Santa Teresa/Mal Pais. It is an amazing horseback riding tour that winds you through the breath-taking 5000-acre property of the Hacienda Ario. You will enjoy amazing views, discover untouched beaches and ride through open pastures. The experienced local guide that accompanies you will tell you all about Costa Rica’s wild ecosystems, its cattle traditions, its unique wildlife and exotic bird populations. Costa Rica Tide Pools

At low tide every day, there are many wonderful tide pools that you can explore on the beach nearby our hotel. Relax in these fantastic hot water pools or spend your time looking for treasures in these magical rock enclaves. Many fish, crabs, lobsters, and shells can be found in these calm and clear waters.

Montezuma Waterfalls

One of the things you must do while in Santa Teresa, is to take a day trip to the Montezuma waterfalls. Renting an ATV is probably the most fun way to arrive, however, you may have rented a car already and that’s fine, too—the end result is the same. These waterfalls are spectacular with three upper pools that flood down into one last large cascading chute. You will most likely see locals jumping and diving from rocks above the falls when you are there. Take your time. Soak up the Pura Vida while you’re there and bask in the natural beauty that surrounds you.

Fishing

Fishing tours are one of the most fun-filled activities that you can take part in while you are on vacation in Santa Teresa. Not only is it a great experience, but also it is a great way for you to meet the locals, learn about their beloved fishing culture and to enjoy a boat ride along Costa Rica’s scenic coastline. Your local fishing guide will take you to some of the best fishing spots the area where, depending on the season, you can catch Mahi Mahi, Red Snapper, Yellow Fin tuna, Rooster Fish and so much more.

Canopy Tours

There are two fantastic canopy/zip line tours that you can enjoy while you are in Santa Teresa. One is a zip line tour along the edge of Cabo Blanco National Park where you will experience zip lining through and above thick rain forest on lines extending up to 500m in length. You will also delight in the views of the Pacific Ocean and perhaps even swing with the monkeys as you shoot across 9 platforms. The other canopy tour is in Montezuma. This zip line adventure consists of 13 platforms, a suspension bridge that is 30 meters high and it ends at the famous Montezuma waterfalls where you can go for a swim.

Bird Watching

If you love to bird watch and you are interested in observing the large biodiversity of birds in this area, a local guide can take you to the best hot spots for bird watching in the Santa Teresa/Mal Pais area. There are over 894 species including 19 globally threatened species in Costa Rica. Bird watching is a delightful activity for both individuals and families looking to add a little color into their lives.

Cabo Blanco Nature Preserve

Cabo Blanco is the very first National Park to be established in Costa Rica and it is only a short drive away from Blue Surf Sanctuary. Located at the southernmost tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. Cabo Blanco National Park is now a beautiful recovered forest that is teeming with life. We can arrange a wonderful tour of this National Park for you where, with your private naturalist guide, you will get the chance to enjoy some of Cabo Blanco’s 140 species of trees as well as a wide variety of exotic mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. Of all of the Costa Rica activities this is one is a can’t miss!

Curu Wildlife Reserve

Curu Wildlife Reserve is a privately owned protected park that is rich in diverse wildlife. A tour here is a magical experience where you will get the chance to discover five of Costa Rica’s unique ecosystems with a local bilingual naturalist guide. There are a wide variety of reptiles, amphibians, insects and marine life that live in the Curu Wildlife Reserve as well three different species of monkeys, over 50 different types of mammals and more than 200 species of birds.

Sea Kayaking Tours

Sea kayaking is one of the newest adventure sports that is now available in Santa Teresa. It is a really fun way to get close to nature while trying something new and adventurous. Not only is sea kayaking excellent exercise, but also it is a great way to explore the open ocean, to discover exotic wildlife on the local waterways and to enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica’s coastline. There are several different sea kayaking tour options available to you and your family, one of the most popular being a sea kayaking fishing tour.

Snorkeling or Diving to Isla Tortuga

Snorkeling or scuba diving at Isla Tortuga is one of the more popular, all-day tours that we often arrange for our guests. On this tour, you will get the chance to snorkel or dive at some of the best spots around the island. You can see many colorful tropical fish such as angelfish, porcupine fish, needlefish as well as turtles, stingrays, octopus, starfish, and spotted eagle rays. If you visit us during the seasonal whale migrations, you may also get to see some whales up close and perhaps, even swim with the dolphins.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)

If you love surfing, and our other Costa Rica activities or if you would like to try something new, you might really enjoy the opportunity to participate in one of the many different and unique SUP tours that we can happily arrange for guests at the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel. There are Beginners Clinics for first-time SUPers, River/Estuary Tours for those looking for more of a nature filled SUPing adventure and there are even Advanced Wave Riding lessons for those experienced SUPers looking to improve their skills.
