The Costa Rica Snorkeling Tour starts off in Montezuma with a one-hour boat ride over to the picturesque island of Isla Tortuga. Isla Tortuga is a gorgeous island in the Gulf of the Nicoya Peninsula and it is one of the best locations off the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica in which to scuba dive or snorkel. The island itself is home to much exotic marine life and its surrounding coral reef and volcanic rock formations create the perfect setting for your breathtaking and unforgettable snorkeling or scuba diving experience. On your boat ride over to the island alone, you may get the chance to see dolphins, jumping manta rays, sea turtles and even sometimes, migrating humpback and pilot whales. Can you imagine? Once the boat gets to Isla Tortuga, it will anchor at some of the best snorkeling spots around the island and this is where your fun truly begins. Jump off the boat and away you go. Swim, explore and discover the crystalline waters and its bounty of sea life. The ocean here is full of wonderful tropical fish and on this snorkeling tour, you may see many different species of eels, turtles, stingrays, octopus, sea horses, starfish, yellowtails, angelfish, porcupine fish, needlefish and spotted eagle rays.

Scuba Diving

If you have signed up to scuba dive, when the boat anchors at Isla Tortuga, another scuba diving boat will pick you up and take you to some of the best local dive spots. Typically, visibility for scuba diving around Isla Tortuga ranges from 30 to 50 feet. You will be diving around dramatic volcanic rocks and rock pinnacles which are teeming with sea life. This scuba diving tour is full all year round however, May to November are typically the best months for scuba diving where you’ll see the most diverse and vibrant marine life.

After snorkeling or scuba diving in the morning, the boat will next take you to the magnificent sandy shores of Isla Tortuga where a fantastic lunch awaits. Relax and enjoy yourself, as you will be served drinks, fruit and a fresh BBQ with grilled potatoes and homemade bread. In the afternoon, you will be free to enjoy hiking around the island, swimming, playing volleyball, renting a kayak or simply relaxing on the beach. Finally, to finish off your day, you get to enjoy one last picturesque boat ride back to Montezuma.
