Sea Kayak in Santa Teresa Costa Rica

Whether you are interested in fishing or just cruising up a river to discover some local mangroves, sea kayaking is a fantastic way to experience Costa Rica’s lush coastline.

There are four great sea kayaking tour options that we offer our guests at the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel in Santa Teresa. If you would like to take any of these tours, please let one of our receptionists know when you check in.

Ocean Kayak Fishing

This is a super fun kayaking tour that takes you out into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mal Pais, Costa Rica. You will get a chance to explore many of Mal Pais’ beautiful coral enclaves while fishing for Jackfish, Snapper, Tuna, Mackerel, Barracuda and Sea bass. This tour includes an experienced guide as well as all the fishing equipment that you might need. Rods, reels and bait are included, but if you have your own equipment or you want to test out that new lure that you just bought, feel free to bring those along as well. This tour is 3-hours long and it costs $70 per person.

Kayak River Bongo/Pochote

If you are more interested in exploring some of the area’s rivers and mangroves rather than fishing, then this tour is for you. You will be picked up at our hotel, the Blue Surf Sanctuary, and your tour will begin with a picturesque drive along the beautiful beach of Manzanillo. You will be dropped off at the mouth of the Rio Bongo where your river kayaking tour begins. From there, you will cruise up the Rio Bongo and Rio Pochote which are rich in mangroves and exotic wildlife. You may see osprays, baby crocodiles, iguanas, jesus lizards and much more. This trip includes your round-trip transportation from the hotel as well as some snacks and drinks. It is a 4-5 hour tour that costs $95 per person (2 person minimum).

Submarine Volcano Paddling Tour

Cabo Blanco was the very first national park and marine reserve in Costa Rica. On this sea kayaking tour, you will paddle your way around the waters surrounding Cabo Blanco and visit a submarine volcano. You may see many sea turtles and birds on this tour. You may also see some whales and dolphins on this tour, if it is the season for their migrations. This tour will also take you to a ‘secret beach’ where you can rest, snorkel and even visit a bat cave. This kayaking tour is 3-hours and it is $70 per person.

Manzanillo Kayak River Adventure

In this kayaking tour you will paddle your way up the gorgeous Manzanillo River which is a calm and shallow river surrounded by lush jungle. You can take this tour at your own pace and try to spot as many birds, snakes, lizards and monkeys are you can. This is a 3-hour tour that costs $70 per person. There is a 2-person minimum for this tour and the price includes your transport to and from the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel.
